Die Ausgabe »100 englische Klassiker, die jeder haben muss« präsentiert auf über 45.000 Bildschirmseiten die Schlüsselwerke der englischen Literatur. Von Chaucer über Shakespeare, Fielding, Byron und Wilde bis zu Conrad und Lawrence vermitteln die ausgewählten Werke von 73 Autoren einen Überblick über die englische Literatur, der vom Ende des 14. Jahrhunderts bis in die zwanziger Jahre des 20. Jahrhunderts reicht.
Bei der sorgfältigen Auswahl der Texte wurde darauf Wert gelegt, die wichtigsten Romane, Erzählungen, Gedichte, Dramen und Versepen der bedeutendsten und wirksamsten Autoren in elektronischer Form zugänglich zu machen und dabei den Bedürfnissen eines breiten Lesepublikums gerecht zu werden. Dies bedeutete, möglichst viele der immer wieder gelesenen, diskutierten und analysierten Werke der englischen Literatur zu erfassen und wichtigen literarischen Entwicklungen anhand repräsentativer Texte Rechnung zu tragen. Aufgrund dieser angestrebten Vielfalt findet sich Byrons »Don Juan« neben Mary Shelleys »Frankenstein« und Bram Stokers »Dracula« neben Oscar Wildes »Dorian Gray«.
